Cameron Sasai
Council Member
City of Pinole
csasai@pinole.govCameron Sasai serves as a member of the City Council of Pinole, California, proudly representing his city with a strong dedication to his hometown.
In 2022, Cameron Sasai was elected to the Pinole City Council, making history as the first Filipino American, second of Asian American descent, and youngest person to represent the city in its 120+ year history. Sasai broke new ground again in 2024 when he became Pinole’s youngest representative and first person of Filipino descent to occupy the Mayor’s Office.
A lifelong resident, Mayor Sasai was born and raised in the City of Pinole. Raised by a Filipina immigrant mother and a Japanese American father from a farm working background, he leads with values of equity and social justice. He is a proud alumnus of the University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science—Public Service after attending Contra Costa College and Diablo Valley College.
In his first 2 years in office, Sasai has taken action to advance economic development and affordable housing, support small businesses, stand up for our most vulnerable families, and transition our community into a sustainable, clean energy future. Some of his accomplishments include championing one of California’s toughest Safe Storage of Firearms local laws, enacting Bay Area’s first ban on new gas stations, and passing policies to encourage the city’s procurement of union-made vehicles and print work.
During his mayorship, Sasai fought to advance local laws to prohibit federal immigration enforcement on public property and to ensure that residents have access to Know Your Rights and legal aid materials. He also established the City of Pinole’s paid internship program, which provides local high school students with the opportunity to intern directly under the Mayor and City Council.
Mayor Sasai serves as Chair of the West Contra Costa Transportation Commission and a Board Director for WestCAT. Sasai currently serves as Statewide Chair of the Filipino American Democratic Caucus of the California Democratic Party.
In his other capacity, Cameron Sasai worked at LEAD Filipino, a Bay Area nonprofit where he spearheaded their statewide legislative initiative, advocating for legislation in the areas of tenant rights, police reform, health equity, and Ethnic Studies. Currently, Mayor Sasai serves as a Policy Coordinator with the California Immigrant Policy Center, specializing in legislation to address detention and deportation.
