A Little Neighborhood Effort Can Make a Big Difference

As we prepare for the possibility of heavy rains associated with El Niño, the City of Pinole is asking residents to help protect their neighborhoods by participating in our Adopt a Catch Basin initiative.

Catch basins (storm drains) play an important role in directing rainwater away from our streets, sidewalks, and homes. During the fall and winter months, fallen leaves, trash, and other debris can accumulate around storm drains, blocking water flow and contributing to localized flooding.

We’re asking residents to adopt a catch basin near their home and help keep it clear!

Here’s how you can help:

  • Identify a storm drain near your home or on your block.
  • Regularly sweep or rake leaves and debris away from the drain opening, especially before forecasted storms.
  • Place collected leaves and debris in your appropriate waste container. Never sweep them into the street or storm drain.
  • Encourage your neighbors to participate. A little teamwork can make a big difference!
  • Report clogged or damaged storm drains to the City’s Public Works Department by calling (510) 724-9010 or visit: Report a Problem

Safety First: Please stay on the sidewalk whenever possible. Never enter a storm drain, lift a catch basin grate, attempt to remove heavy debris, or clear drains during active flooding. Leave those situations to City crews.

Our Public Works team works hard to maintain Pinole’s stormwater infrastructure, but with hundreds of catch basins throughout the community, residents can play an important role in keeping our neighborhoods safe.

By adopting just one catch basin, you can help reduce localized flooding, protect property, and keep our streets safer during winter storms.

Let’s work together to keep Pinole safe, prepared, and flood-ready.

Thank you for being a good neighbor and doing your part!
