The West Contra Costa Integrated Waste Management Authority recently approved a new long-term agreement with West County Resource Recovery, Inc. for post-collection recycling, composting, and disposal services. The agreement began January 1, 2026, and runs through June 30, 2040, with options to extend through 2050.

This agreement, developed through a competitive bidding process, is designed to ensure rate stability, environmental compliance, and continued support for recycling and organics recovery programs under state mandates like AB 341 and SB 1383. It also maintains essential community services such as household hazardous waste collection, compost giveaways, and public education programs.

Under the new contract, West County Resource Recovery will continue managing the transfer, transport, and processing of recyclables, organics, and solid waste from member cities. The Keller Canyon Landfill will remain the primary disposal site, ensuring responsible waste management in compliance with environmental regulations.

What This Means for You

Starting January 1, 2026, your Republic Services bill will reflect a rate increase of approximately 3%. This adjustment is due to the new post-collection agreement and will appear on your bill as the IRRF Charge.

RecycleMore will present information about the new agreement at the council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 5pm, so be sure to tune in to learn more (meeting agenda and Zoom info are on our website — or watch Pinole Community Television).
