Know Your Rights
Important Information
Everyone in the U.S. has constitutional rights, regardless of immigration status. If you’re approached by immigration agents, remember:
1. Stay calm. Don’t run, resist, or obstruct the officers.
2. You have the right to remain silent. Do not answer any questions from an immigration agent if they try to talk to you.
3. You have the right to speak to a lawyer before answering questions or signing anything.
4. You should carry valid immigration documents. Never carry false documents.
5. Do not open the door if an immigration agent is knocking at the door.
6. Police do not have the right to search you or your belongings without consent or probable cause. A Department of Homeland Security form alone is not enough.
The City of Pinole remains committed to protecting the rights, liberties, and freedoms of Pinole residents, workers, and visitors. This commitment was confirmed by City Council Resolution 2025-15. Pinole Police officers do not inquire about immigration status.
