During the Fourth of July Celebration at Pinole Valley High School, Robert Walker Jr. was honored posthumously with the Key to the City in a touching ceremony full of respect, appreciation, and community spirit.
Hundreds of residents, city employees, and family members gathered to commemorate Walker, who served as a Public Works Maintenance Worker for the City of Pinole for an extraordinary 45 years. His daughter, Tracy Walker, accepted the honor on his behalf, joined onstage by her mother and children in a heartfelt moment that moved many in the audience to tears.
To recognize Robert’s lifetime of service, City Manager Kelcey Young invited guests to rise for a standing ovation. Members of the Public Works Department — many of whom had worked alongside him — joined the family onstage, showing the closeness and deep respect built through decades of dedication.
“Robert reminds us that you don’t have to wear a title or take the stage to make a profound difference. Every person — no matter their role — has the power to shape the fabric of a city. And Robert did just that. One day, one task, one act of service at a time.” said Mayor Cameron Sasai during the presentation.
Held just before the evening’s drone show finale, the ceremony created a powerful pause in the festivities — a moment of reflection and gratitude. At the mayor’s invitation, the field fell silent as attendees observed a moment of reverence, honoring not only a devoted public servant, but a beloved member of the Pinole community.
Robert’s legacy extends beyond city infrastructure; it lives on in the everyday rhythm of Pinole — in the streets we drive, the parks we enjoy, and the example he set through quiet leadership, humility, and unwavering service.
As the celebration continued into the night, one thing remained clear: Robert Walker Jr. will always be part of Pinole’s story.
